Now, before you get too excited, let me say this is a limited re-opening. Two days only. Friday June 7 and Saturday, June 8, 2013. 9 am to 4 pm on Friday and 9 am to 2 pm on Saturday.

Many of you ask – “How can we shop with you?” We can’t post all the fabrics and nothing compares to looking and feeling fabrics in person. The problem with a retail location had been time and cost. We think we have come up with a compromise. Our cousin has a Carpet Store with a warehouse in the back. She needs foot traffic and we need display space. We are going to try an experiment. As you know, sometimes you need to think outside the box to be successful. We are going to set up in her warehouse for the weekend. We are going to bring all our fabrics, just like at quilt show. We will bring batiks and prints, cut in 3 yard pieces, 1 yard pieces and 1/2 yd. pieces. We have just received 3 new orders of batiks. $10.95 a yard or $5.50 for a 1/2 yd. We’ll have prints there too – $9.95 a yd. or $5.50 for a 1/2 yd. We will bring our specially priced fat quarter tubs for bargain hunters. We are also going to bring some one of a kind items. It is time to clean out some quilt tops. These quilt tops are samples from kits. We just can’t keep everything (what?). So they will be reasonably priced for the fabric and the labor. If this event is successful, we’ll pack everything up and do it more often. So, call your quilting friends and plan a road trip to our “One Shop -Shop Hop Stop”.

Location: Carpet Distributors. 115 Carpet Rd., Statesville, NC 28625. Map: http://carpet-distributors.com/contact-us/

Carpet Distributors is located off of I-40 at Exit 162 between Statesville and Mocksville. You can’t miss it. It sets on the hill right off of the exit. One of our other cousins owns Furniture Distributors right beside it. So, come prepared to shop for fabric. Also, bring your paint swatches and measurements if you need flooring. Also, look next door at the furniture shop and see how his prices compare on special orders from major names in the furniture world. You might be surprised at the difference in small town prices.

Everyone loves 8 pointed stars, but everyone hates to piece a Y seam. There is a tedious way to do it that involves a lot of marking and pining and holding your mouth just so. Then there is the way that I do it. No marking. You will need some pinning, but all in all, a pretty painless process. These stars are about 27″, so one will make a wall hanging or four will make a large quilt. The first thing we are going to do in class is make a small star block. I’ll have it cut out and ready for you to sew. This block is the “kinks” block just so you can practice the technique. This kit is included in your class fee of $39.00. Once you make your small star block, I’ll show you how to take a large print and make a stunning star like the ones shown above. This technique, a combination of Stack and Whack and Fussy Cutting, lets the fabric do all the work. The ruler we are going to use is the Fast to Cut 45 degree Diamond Guide, $24.95. You can get this at class time. You will not be doing any cutting ahead of time. The other stars shown on this page are from the same piece of fabric. Look through you stash for large prints with a lot of contrast. You will need at least 8 repeats. Usually 3 to 4 yds. will give you enough fabric for at least 4 big stars.

Cindy will continue “better piecing”with the block of the month in the afternoon.

Class starts at 10 am and finishes about 4 pm. The classes will be held at Cool Spring Methodist Church, 1902 Mocksville Rd, Cleveland, NC—that is Hwy. 64 about 8 miles East of Statesville, and is easily accessible from either I-77 or I-40. As you know, eating lunch is an important part of the day. Bring a sandwich and we’ll provide sides, chips, desert and tea. There is always plenty to share.

To register for the class, call Cindy Page, 704-376-2531 to reserve your space, then mail checks payable to The Quilter’s Gallery to 224 Woodleaf Road, Cleveland, NC 27013. This class is $39.00 and does include a small sample block. Rulers are extra. Payment is required at the time of registration to hold your space in the class. A supply list with directions to the venue will be emailed to you upon registration.

Hope to see you in July,

This is the same quilt block, but just a different setting. We will show you many different ways to put this quilt together.

Sewing might be the reason for the class, but a lot of you show up for the food. Bring a sandwich and we’ll provide, tea, chips and desert. Momma’s garden is growing like crazy, so who knows what she will cook up. Blackberries should be in season by then, so perhaps fresh blackberry cobbler will make an appearance.

Many of you already have the kite ruler we used…it’s the one Patti used in the String Piecing/Spiderweb class. It’s $14.00 (plus postage and tax) and we can mail it to you along with cutting instructions in time to get your cutting started. Choose a background and then pull contrasting fabrics from your stash.

Remember this quilt? The String Quilt/Spider Web? This quilt uses the same template as Go Fly A Kite. In the afternoon, we will review the construction of this quilt. Also, Cindy will continue demos on our block of the month, Vintage Memories. It’s a full day!

The Sewing is fun, but many of our quilters say that lunch is the best part of the day. Bring a sandwich and we will provide chips, tea and something sweet. There is always plenty to share so come hungry.
