We love to do a show like the one we are preparing in Columbia!  We have the best and nicest vendors.  We feel strongly about promoting small business.  We are planning for about 35 vendors.  Working together is the best way to succeed.  We invite you to come and spend the day with us.  You will find quilting fabrics, books, notions, and patterns.  Fiber enthusiasts will find yarns and sorts of things for knitting and felting.  If you love wool, there will be several wool vendors from which to choose.  Sewing machine and longarm machine vendors will be glad to give you test drive on any of the machines that they have in their booths.  Parking is free and there will be food available on site.  If you have any questions, please contact us at qkexcolumbia@gmail.com.  You can also give us a call at 704-376-2531.

Now, before you get too excited, let me say this is a limited re-opening.  Two days only.  Friday June 7 and Saturday, June 8, 2013.  9 am to 4 pm on Friday and 9 am to 2 pm on Saturday.

Many of you ask – “How can we shop with you?”  We can’t post all the fabrics and nothing compares to looking and feeling fabrics in person.  The problem with a retail location had been time and cost.  We think we have come up with a compromise.  Our cousin has a Carpet Store with a warehouse in the back.  She needs foot traffic and we need display space.  We are going to try an experiment.  As you know, sometimes you need to think outside the box to be successful.  We are going to set up in her warehouse for the weekend.  We are going to bring all our fabrics, just like at quilt show.  We will bring batiks and prints, cut in 3 yard pieces, 1 yard pieces and 1/2 yd. pieces. We have just received 3 new orders of batiks.  $10.95 a yard or $5.50 for a 1/2 yd.  We’ll have prints there too – $9.95 a yd. or $5.50 for a 1/2 yd.  We will bring our specially priced fat quarter tubs for bargain hunters. We are also going to bring some one of a kind items.  It is time to clean out some quilt tops.  These quilt tops are samples from kits.  We just can’t keep everything (what?).  So they will be reasonably priced for the fabric and the labor.   If this event is successful, we’ll pack everything up and do it more often.  So, call your quilting friends and plan a road trip to our “One Shop -Shop Hop Stop”.

Carpet Distributors is located off of I-40 at Exit 162  between Statesville and Mocksville.  You can’t miss it.   It sets on the hill right off of the exit.  One of our other cousins owns Furniture Distributors right beside it. So, come prepared to shop for fabric.  Also, bring your paint swatches and measurements if you need flooring.  Also, look next door at the furniture shop and see how his prices compare on special orders from major names in the furniture world.  You might be surprised at the difference in small town prices.

This is the same quilt block, but just a different setting. We will show you many different ways to put this quilt together.

Sewing might be the reason for the class, but a lot of you show up for the food.  Bring a sandwich and we’ll provide, tea, chips and desert. Momma’s garden is growing like crazy, so who knows what she will cook up. Blackberries should be in season by then, so perhaps fresh blackberry cobbler will make an appearance.

Class starts at 10 am and finishes about 4 pm.  The classes will be held at Cool Spring Methodist Church, 1902 Mocksville Rd, Cleveland, NC—that is Hwy. 64 about 8 miles East of Statesville, and is easily accessible from either I-77 or I-40.

Many of you already have the kite ruler we used…it’s the one Patti used in the String Piecing/Spiderweb class. It’s $14.00 (plus postage and tax) and we can mail it to you along with cutting instructions in time to get your cutting started. Choose a background and then pull contrasting fabrics from your stash. 

Remember this quilt?  The String Quilt/Spider Web?  This quilt uses the same template as Go Fly A Kite.  In the afternoon, we will review the construction of this quilt.  Also, Cindy will continue demos on our block of the month, Vintage Memories.  It’s a full day!
