Hello Everyone,
I saw this quilt on the cover of this book in an advertisement and knew I had to make it.  Sometimes quilts just talk to you.  Join us on Friday, September 20 or Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 10am for class.  We’ll make one block and cover a lot of basic techniques.  We’ll make 1/2 squares, 1/4 squares, flying geese and “flippy corners”.  And then – we’ll make all those fit together.  Make one block or make lots of blocks – whatever suits you.  Class is $35.00.  This quilt is from the book Vintage Legacies by Carol Hopkins.  We recommend that you buy the book.  We are going to do several other quilts out of this book.  We have the books in stock.  You can get it on class day.  In the meantime, once you register for class, I will send you cutting instructions for the block.  You can make it the size that the book covers, which is a 10” block or make it bigger.  I will send several different sizes from which to choose.
You will need for class:
Your machine and a 1/4” foot without a side blade.  (We have some feet, but check with your dealer.  Bernina people bring #37)
Your precut block and basic sewing notions.  If you are new to cutting, we’ll help you get started.
Your lunch or a dish to share.
Show and Tell – we love to see what you are doing.

Class will once again be held at Cool Spring UMC, 1902 Mocksville Highway, Cleveland, NC…Hwy. 64, east of Statesville.   The church is easily accessible from I-40 or I-77.
Be sure to bring something for “show and tell”.
If you can’t come for the class, then just stop by for some shopping.

Class will be from 10 am-4 pm but we have the church open by 9 am so you can get set up and have a cup of coffee before we begin at 10 am.
As you know, eating lunch is an important part of the day.  You bring a sandwich and we’ll provide sides, chips, desert and tea.

To register for the class, call Cindy Page, 704-376-2531 to reserve your space, then mail a check made to The Quilter’s Gallery to 224 Woodleaf Road, Cleveland, NC  27013.  Payment is required at the time of registration to hold your space in the class.

August, September and October Classes https://quiltersgallery.net/august-september-and-october-classes/ Sat, 17 Aug 2019 14:32:11 +0000 https://quiltersgallery.net/?p=2246
Birdeye by Miss Rosie

Here is our quilt for the August class.  The name of this quilt is Birdseye from Miss Rosie’s Farmhouse Favorites book.

The dates for the class are Friday, August 23 or Saturday, August 24, 2019.  Time – 10am – 4pm.  Cost for the class is $35.00.  We recommend that you purchase the book, but I will be sending basic cutting instructions for one block when you register for the class.  We’ll be focusing on fast piecing quarter squares where all the units need to be the same (not mirror image).
Bring your sewing machine, your 1/4” foot, (preferably without a side bar), neutral thread, basic sewing tools. Specific information for fabric requirements and cutting information will be sent after you sign up.  You can get the book when you come to class.  This design used to be published as a single pattern and we have a couple of patterns left but you’ll need to let me know fast if you want only the pattern…first come basis! You can make a block or two in class then make a plan and collect fabrics for your quilt. You can pull fabrics from your stash for your sample blocks to make it easy.

Mrs. Lincoln by Carol Hopkins from Vintage Legacies
Our September class, Friday, September 20 or Saturday, September 21, 2019 will be Mrs. Lincoln from  the book Vintage Legacies by Carol Hopkins.  This block contains half-squares, quarter-squares, flying geese and “flippy corners”.  Here’s the first block…more to come!

We are adding a special class Friday, October 4 or Saturday, October 5, 2019 that we are calling Quilter’s Bootcamp.

Boot Camp

If you have friends who have always wanted to learn to quilt, this is a chance for them to learn a few tricks that will make piecing less intimidating, more accurate and a lot of fun. It’s going to a comprehensive notebook class, with participants sewing samples of each technique to put in their notebook and take home for reference.  It’s going to cover many things you wish you had known earlier in your quilting career-concepts that make your piecing easier, faster, more accurate!Fabric prep, cutting, 1/4” seams, half-square triangles, quarter-square triangles, flying geese and more, if time allows.  You must have a 1/4” foot, without a side blade!!! Check with your local dealer, go on line, find one that is designed to work with your machine.  We have some feet in stock but I can’t guarantee which machines they fit so search until you find the right foot for your specific brand of machine.  Everything in piecing is based on a 1/4” seam so simplify your life by purchasing the right kind of foot. You have plenty of time to get a proper foot before class. You’ll need to bring your sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, neutral color thread, etc.  I’ll send a specific supply list when you sign up. Class will be 10:00am-4:00pm, $50, which will cover the class fee, handouts and fabric for sewing the samples.  Again, this would be a good class for beginners or for those of us who could use a class to “tune up” our skills.

October class is Advanced Kaleidoscope

Our other, regularly scheduled,  October class will be Friday, October 18 or Saturday, October 19, 2019.  10:00am-4:00pm. This class will be an advanced kaleidoscope quilt, fussy cutting the fabric to make really interesting blocks.  All the blocks in my sample werecut from this one Kaffe Fascett striped fabric.  You’ll probably be able to pull the fabric for the points from your stash as each set of 8 points only takes about a fat-eighth.  Star points need high contrast to the background. Batiks are not appropriate for this project because they are hand printed and the registry is not perfectly aligned. We are announcing this class early so you have time to find a fun fabric to work with.I’ll provide more information about fabric requirements and other supplies you’ll need when you register for this class. We have lots of wonderful large scale fabrics in stock that would be perfect for this project!

This is the fabric Cindy used in her blocks.

Bring your “Show and Tell”.  Finished or unfinished, we love to see what you are working on.

Class starts at 10:00 am and finishes about 4:00 pm but we’ll have the building open at 9:00 am so plan to arrive in time to have a cup of coffee and set up so we’ll be ready to start at 10:00 am.  The class will be held at Cool Spring Methodist Church, 1902 Mocksville Rd, Cleveland, NC—that is Hwy. 64 about 8 miles East of Statesville and is easily accessible from either I-77 or I-40.  (Cleveland is our mailing address…a rural route…we are not in Cleveland so don’t let your GPS take you there!  If you need directions, call Cindy or Patti.)
As you know, eating lunch is an important part of the day.  Bring a sandwich, or your favorite potluck recipe, and we’ll provide sides, chips, and tea.  Quilters are good cooks too so there is always plenty to share.
If you can’t join us for the class, remember we are “Open” for shopping. We invite you to stop by and shop while the class is going on.  We can take you to “the barn”.  That’s where we keep batting, wide backs, other goodies.  Remember all our buttons from the store?  We still have those.  Lace, eyelet trim-it’s there too. Just ask, and we’ll pull them out for you.  We’ve been rearranging the barn and, like all cleaning/organizing adventures, we have a mess!  Hopefully, we will restore order within the next 2 weeks so you can visit “the barn” and find anything you are looking for.  We’ve even rearranged the fabric!

The Columbia Quilting Expo https://quiltersgallery.net/the-columbia-quilting-expo-2/ Thu, 11 Jul 2019 13:22:37 +0000 https://quiltersgallery.net/?p=2216

Vendors and Shopping

We are almost ready for next week’s show.  Our vendors are ready.  We have 27 vendors with booths full of merchandise.  Obviously, there will be lots of fabric, patterns and notions. There will be wools to “dye” for.  All kinds of sewing machines will be there from little black Singers and starter sewing machines to “dream” machines that sew and embroider.  You can test drive several brands of long arm machines.  I am sure you can find a new project to keep you inside in the air conditioning.

Quilter’s of South Carolina Quilt Show

This show grows each year.  It’s twice the size it was last year.  More than 200 quilts will be on display.  Featured artist, George Ann Rast, from Eutawville, will have a beautiful display of her work.  A youth category has been added.  We are excited to have young quilters recognized.  There will also be a display of the Loggerhead Turtle Quilt Challenge. Several guilds will have raffle quilts and member displays.  If you are looking for a guild in your area to help support your passion, members will be there to answer questions.

Quilts of Valor

Quilts of Valor will have a display of their quilts.  This very active and hard working group deserves our support.  SC quilters made and presented almost 20,000 quilts to Veterans last year. That is something to be proud of.  Go SC!

Other Activities

The fun starts early.  Be one of the first 100 people to purchase a ticket each morning and you will get 2 chances to win all day long.  That’s two times the chances to win door prizes all day and the sewing machine at 3 pm. You will also get twice the chances for the “Big Basket” of goodies that we give away on Saturday.

Early Bird Specials

From 9 – 10am each day some booths will have Early Bird Specials.  They might pick a certain item to feature that first hour.  Check the posters at the entry way to see what deals to shop for first. The Quilter’s Gallery will have an “all day special” on our wide quilt backs and selected white and beige fabrics.

Sewing Machine Drawings

On Friday, Creative Sewing Machine Center from Columbia will be giving away a Baby Lock Ellure Plus.  It has a MSRP of $3499.  This is a sewing machine and an embroidery machine.
On Saturday, Sew Suite Studio will be giving away a JUKI HZL80 machine.  It has a MSRP of $599.
The drawings will be at 3pm each day.  You must be present to win a machine.
At the end of day on Saturday, we will draw from all our attendees for the winner of the big basket of goodies.  You do not have to be present to win the basket.

Food!

What day out doesn’t include food?  We’ll have a food truck again this year.  Carolina Cookin’ will be here with BBQ, yummy chicken salad, Po’ Boys, Cheese grits and more. AND, we heard you last year, so there will be a desert truck. Front Porch Sweets will be on board with yummy baked goods and cold drinks.

Admission

Print the postcard above for $1.00 off admission.  Or just show it on your cell phone. Copy and send it to your friends.  Post it on FB. Admission is $8.00. You can also get a two day wrist band for $10.00.  Stay in Columbia.  Spend the weekend with us.
Help us spread the word about The Columbia Quilting Expo.

Join us next week.  Support local shops and small businesses.  Visit with your quilting friends.  We always have a great crowd on Friday. Bring your friends, your mama, and all your cousins and come on Saturday too.  Show them the best SC quilts.  Show them what Quilts of Valor is about.  Eat some delicious food. Buy more fabric and go home happy.
