Hello Quilters, Here is a reminder about some dates to save and pictures from our last “Show and Tell” event. Lone Star with a scrappy border. Hello Everyone,  I finished another quilt top.  Like several others things I have worked on, this one was at least 20 years old.  (That’s the silver lining of being at home.  I have finished some things.)  The star part was all finished.  All it needed was a border.  In the bag, I found random fabrics that were in the quilt and 4 pieced stars.  I cut the fabrics into 8 1/2″ strips, and then cut those strips into random lengths.  I stitched some strips around the blocks to get them big enough and then randomly stitched everything back together into border lengths.  I think it turned out just fine.  Another unfinished project becomes finished quilt top. We had our June “Show and Tell” event last weekend.  It was a nice event.  Not only did we have new quilts, but several people brought old quilts and told us the stories behind them.  It was a nice way to connect the past and future with the talents of so many quilters.  We will do some more “Show and Tell” events during the All Carolina Shop Hop dates in the fall.  (It will be cool enough to be outside by then.) Blueberry Picking Late June and July means it’s time to pick blueberries at our cousin’s farm just outside of Statesville, NC.  Plan to join us for a day in the country picking berries yourself, or if you want us to pick blueberries for you, we can arrange that also.  More details later. Barn Quilt Painting We took a barn quilt class at Mary Mae’s – A Southern Mercantile. Owner Connie Edwards could not have been nicer.  Her husband, Mr. Dale teaches the classes.  Her shop is located at 310-B South Salisbury Ave., Spencer, NC 28159.  704.431.4875.  [email protected].  The class we scheduled for July 14, 2021 is full.  So they graciously agreed to add another class on Thursday, July 15, 2021.  We invite you to join us.    They have other regularly scheduled classes as well. If you would like to join us, give her a call or search for her on Facebook.  All the prices are there.  Mr. Dale primes the wood and has your design drawn on the base. After you finish painting, he applies the sealer, and you pick it up the next week.  There are lots of choices for your design.  All you have to do is tape and paint.  We did 3′ x 3′ barn quilts.  I would suggest starting a little smaller for your first one.  They have all the paint, brushes, etc. that you need to complete your project. .Upcoming Classes  Yes, I think we can start classes again.  Yippee!!!  Save these dates. Friday, July 23 or Saturday, July 24 Friday, August 20 or Saturday, August 21 Friday, September 24 or Saturday, September 25 This is March Madness.  Class dates are Friday, July 23 OR Saturday, July 24, 2021.  We hope you are ready to get back to classes too. This was the quilting class we had on the schedule before the world blew up.  Traditional piecing techniques will be covered.  We will make one block in class.  Make this quilt scrappy or planned.  Just need to brush up on some techniques ?  Just make one block in class.  You don’t have to stress over a whole quilt. In the afternoon, Cindy will do a demo for her Jack’s Chain quilt. Class starts at 10 am and finishes about 4 pm.  The classes will be held at Cool Spring Methodist Church, 1902 Mocksville Rd, Cleveland, NC—that is Hwy. 64 about 8 miles East of Statesville, and is easily accessible from either I-77 or I-40. As you know, eating lunch is an important part of the day.  Bring a sandwich or a covered dish and we’ll provide sides, chips, desert and tea.  There is always plenty to share. July means fresh tomatoes, Duke’s mayonnaise, and white bread. To register for the class, call Cindy Page, 704-376-2531 to reserve your space, then mail checks payable to The Quilter’s Gallery to 224 Woodleaf Road, Cleveland, NC 27013. This class is $38.00.  Payment is required at the time of registration to hold your space in the class. A supply list/cutting instructions and directions to the venue will be emailed to you upon registration. Bring something for show and tell. If you need a tractor trailer truck to get all your quilts here, that will be fine. Hope to see you in July, Guild Programs Keep us in mind for programs for your quilting guild now that groups are starting to meet again. We will be doing a program for the Burnsville Quilter’s Guild on July 8, 2021 and we’ll be in Franklin, NC on July 12, 2021. The Statesville Fall Quilting Marketplace Save the Date! Did you miss our Extravaganza in Statesville that was supposed to be last January?  We did too.  We are planning a smaller version this September. September 17 and 18, 2021 We are going to have around 25+ of our vendors at the Statesville Civic Center for a couple of days of shopping frenzy.  We look forward to getting back to work.  Please start sharing this info with your quilting friends. All Carolina’s Shop Hop One last thing, something new is coming this fall.  During the months of October and November, we will be participating in the ALL CAROLINA’S SHOP HOP.  This will incorporate shops all over NC and SC. Sarah’s grandmother made this pineapple quilt for her father while he was in the hospital in Hawaii during WWII. We love to see your quilts. We have assembled more than 30 of your favorite small businesses that feature the best products for quilters and knitters.  Spend the day shopping for quilting fabrics, yarns for knitting, and wools for appliqué and much more. QFAM starts early at 9am with Early Bird Specials.  Many vendors will have selected items on sale from 9am – 10am. Throughout the day, we will have hourly door prize drawings.  We plan to give away a couple of sewing machines as well! Plan to arrive early and spend the day.  The first 100 people in the door, get an extra ticket to win all day long. Mrs. Lacy’s Magnolia House will be serving her wonderful chicken salad and baked goods for your pleasure.   Quilting and Needle Art Extravaganza Statesville Civic Center 300 South Center St. Statesville, NC Jan. 28, 2022 from 9 am – 5 pm Jan. 29, 2022 from 9 am – 4 pm Mark your calendar for this fabulous shopping event! Spend the day shopping for quilting fabrics, yarns for knitting, and wools for appliqué.  Books, patterns and notions will inspire you to create.  Shop for a new sewing machine or a long arm sewing machine.  Our vendors are quilt shops and knitting shops.  Some vendors dye their own fabrics and some “grow” their own yarns on their farms.  Some vendors design their own patterns and some just know where to order the “best stuff”. There will be hourly door prizes and each day at 3pm, Sew Original from Winston Salem and Studio Stitch from Greensboro will be giving away a Bernina Sewing machine.  (You must be present to win a machine.)  Arrive early.  Be one of the first 100 people in the door, and you will get an extra ticket to win all day long.
