March Madness– our July class sample

Hello Everyone, 
We have had a busy week.  On Monday, we enjoyed our time with the Smoky Mountain Quilter’s Guild in Franklin, NC.  We enjoyed our ride to the mountains.  Everything was green and lush looking. We picked blueberries on Tuesday and Friday.  We even saw some of you out there, picking as well, and talking about homemade pie and jam.  Wednesday and Thursday, we painted barn quilts.  Saturday we prepped for a family lunch and Sunday was the big event.  Our niece is getting married, so this was our celebration event.  We had a classic Southern lunch.  Everyone brought something – BBQ chicken, chicken salad, ham biscuits, green beans, (from mom’s garden), corn, tomatoes, cantaloupe, slaw, cucumbers, pie and pound cake.  We did “something old, something new” gifts.  The younger members of our family modeled their prospective junior bridesmaid’s gowns. We had a good time together.

Quilting Class this Week

Above is the class sample for our next class.  Dates are Friday, July 23 or Saturday, July 24, 2021. This was the class we had scheduled before the world blew up.  Traditional piecing techniques will be covered.  We will make one block in class.  Make this quilt scrappy or planned.  Just need to brush up on some techniques ?  Then just make one block in class.  You don’t have to stress over a whole quilt.  Class fee is $38.00. Class fee will include a handout.

In the afternoon, Cindy will do a demo for her Jack’s Chain quilt.  That demo will be about 1 o’clock.

Class starts at 10 am and finishes about 4 pm.  The classes will be held at Cool Spring Methodist Church, 1902 Mocksville Rd, Cleveland, NC—that is Hwy. 64 about 8 miles East of Statesville, and is easily accessible from either I-77 or I-40. As you know, eating lunch is an important part of the day.  Bring a sandwich or a covered dish and we’ll provide sides, chips, desert and tea.  There is always plenty to share. July means fresh tomatoes, Duke’s mayonnaise, and white bread.

To register for the class, call Cindy Page, 704-376-2531 to reserve your space, then mail checks payable to The Quilter’s Gallery to 224 Woodleaf Road, Cleveland, NC 27013. This class is $38.00.  Payment is required at the time of registration to hold your space in the class. A supply list/cutting instructions and directions to the venue will be emailed to you upon registration.

Bring something for “show and tell”. If you need a tractor trailer truck to get all your quilts here, that will be fine. We will start the class “Show and Tell” at 1:30ish.  Everyone is invited to the class “Show and Tell” whether you are taking the class or not.  You might want to squeeze in a little shopping time as well.

We will do some more “Show and Tell” events during our classes and during the All Carolina Shop Hop dates in the fall.  (It will be cool enough to be outside by then.)

Barn Quilt Painting

We took another barn quilt class at Mary Mae’s – A Southern Mercantile.  Owner Connie Edwards could not have been nicer.  Her husband, Mr. Dale teaches the classes.  Her shop is located at 310-B South Salisbury Ave., Spencer, NC 28159.  704.431.4875.  [email protected].  This was our second class.  We did 4′ x 4′ barn quilts.  We worked two full days on our barn quilts.  It was great fun, but we were tired by the end of the second day.  Below are pictures of some of the other barn quilts.  It was nice to do something different and fun to be with other people.

They have other regularly scheduled classes as well. If you would like to take a class, or organize your own group, give her a call or search for her on Facebook.  All the prices are there.  Mr. Dale primes the wood and has your design drawn on the base. After you finish painting, he applies the sealer, and you pick it up the next week.  There are lots of choices for your design.  All you have to do is tape and paint.  I would suggest a 2′ x 2′ for your first one.  They have all the paint, brushes, etc. that you need to complete your project.

Small Businesses

Blueberry Picking

July means it’s time to pick blueberries at our cousin’s farm just outside of Statesville, NC.  His name is John Knox.  His farm is located at 458 Oak Forest Dr., Statesville, NC.  That about 5 miles east of Statesville.  We’ve been picking about 4 days a week. If you have never picked berries, you do not have to bend over to pick.  You can pick about a gallon an hour. . Plan to join us for a day in the country picking berries for yourself.  It’s quiet and there is always a shady place you can pick.  If you want to purchase berries already picked, give John a call.  704-872-6115.
Or if you want to pick up berries at class this weekend, let us know.  $15/gallon.  As picked.  We’ll have them in the frig for you.

You can always make an appointment to shop in the barn for any time that suits you by calling Cindy at the number above.  We’re available almost any time. We would love to see you.  Call us if you need directions.  We are located off I-40 between Statesville and Mocksville, NC.

Also, one of our favorite vendors, Momma’s Kitchen Sweets, (Dorcas Troyer) will be there with her breads and baked goodies.  220 Cafe will also be onsite for delicious food.  This event means so much to all the vendors.  It’s been a long year for every business.  We are thankful to have the opportunity to see you again.

Raffle Quilts

Let me say a little bit about raffle quilts….We are not having any raffle quilts at the September show.  We are trying to keep things as simple as possible.  You know what’s going on.  However, if you want to be considered for a space in January, either in Statesville or Sanford, please let me know. Everyone wants a space.  We are going to get all the requests and then do a drawing.  That is the fairest way to decide which guild gets a spot.  [email protected]

All Carolina’s Shop Hop

One last thing, something new is coming this fall.  During the months of October and November, we will be participating in the ALL CAROLINA’S SHOP HOP.  This will incorporate shops all over NC and SC. Look for the page on Facebook. We will be open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday during October and November.  (Except the weekend of November 14, {we have a family wedding!} and Thanksgiving Day) All the details, like where to get your passports, will be available soon.
