Right Hand, Left Hand

Hello Everyone,
We are headed to Oak Island this week to teach a class.  We always have a good time with the quilters there and look forward to our visit. (and some fresh seafood)  Our class this Friday and Saturday is pictured above.
Recipes
Everyone enjoyed the recipes at Christmas.
Most of these recipes are from my Grandma’s church cookbook from the 1960s.
Icicle Pickles
Our mom makes these and everyone loves them.  (Looks like a lot of work to me!)
2 gal. cucumbers, sliced
1 pint salt
1 gal. boiling water
2 Tbsp. powdered alum
2 qts. vinegar
8 pints white sugar
mixed pickling spices or allspice
Cut cucumbers into slices or strips.  Add salt to boiling water and pour over cucumbers.  Let stand 1 week.Stir each day.  Drain throughly and discard water.  Add powdered alum to 1 gallon of boiling water and pour over drained cucumbers.  Let stand 24 hours. Drain. Heat together 2 qts. of vinegar and 8 pints of sugar.  Add spices. Pour over cucumbers.  Drain liquid, reheat and pour over cucumbers for 3 mornings.  4th day heat the syrup and pour over cucumbers that have been placed in sterilized jars.  Seal.
March Events

Classes

Our class dates for March are Friday, March 24 or Saturday, March 25, 2023. We are doing something a little different.  Stash Busters is going to be a series of quilts that are fairly simple to make.  They are designed to use up all the random fabrics that are in your stash.  Experienced quilters will be able to knock out a quilt top in no time.  Beginners will feel comfortable taking the class.  While others are sewing, we will spend time with you on basic skills like cutting, rulers, and sewing basics.  Maybe you have a friend that wants to quilt but other classes have been too advanced.  Stash Busters will be something you can do together. Maybe you even have enough fabric in your stash that your friend could help you reduce your stash  by making a small quilt. This was easy to make, and I think it turned out to be a nice “quilty” looking quilt.  I used all my leftover French General reds for the squares and a light robin’s egg blue for the stripping.

REMEMBER TO BRING SOMETHING FOR “SHOW AND TELL”.

Class starts at 10 am and finishes about 4 pm but we’ll have the building open at 9:00 am so plan to arrive in time to have a cup of coffee and set up, so we’ll be ready to start at 10:00 am.  The class will be held at Cool Spring Church, 1902 Mocksville Rd, Cleveland, NC—that is Hwy. 64 about 8 miles East of Statesville, and is easily accessible from either I-77 or I-40.

As you know, eating lunch is an important part of the day.  Bring a sandwich, or your favorite recipe, and we’ll provide sides, chips, desert and tea.  Quilters are good cooks too so there is always plenty to share.

To register for the class, call or text Cindy Page, 704-376-2531 to reserve your space, then mail checks payable to The Quilter’s Gallery to 224 Woodleaf Road, Cleveland, NC 27013.   Payment is required at the time of registration to hold your space in the class. A supply list with directions to the venue will be emailed to you upon registration.

REMEMBER TO BRING SOMETHING TO CLASS FOR “SHOW AND TELL”.

We will not have any classes in April or May due to scheduling issues with Easter and Church Yardsale.

“Every quilt begins with a reason. Before a pattern is picked, fabric is selected, or a single stitch is sewn, there is a purpose… The quilts we make are so much more than fabric and thread; they are a library of stories, monuments to our lives. ”

—Thomas Knauer

We quilt because we love quilts and we love people. The 2023 Quilt Show will celebrate our reasons for quilting with the theme Every Quilt Tells a Story.
