Squares and Pointy Things is our class for February. It is a stash buster quilt. You should be able to pull these fabrics from your stash. Dates for the class are February 23 or 24, 2024
Hello Quilters,
Where in the world are Cindy and Patti?
First of all, let me thank everyone that attended either of our shows in January. We hope that you had a good time at the Quilting and Fiber Art Marketplace show in Sanford, NC and/or the Quilting and Needle Art Extravaganza show in Statesville, NC. We appreciate your support. We also appreciate all the other vendors that pack up their wares and present such great booth spaces. Dates for next year are below.
This month we are home for a change. February has turned into maintenance month. I have had a pedicure, a PAP smear, a pelvic exam, a mammogram, (make sure you schedule yours) a complete physical, a visit with my dentist, an eye appointment and a haircut. I have covered everything from head to foot. As far as I know, I’m good to go for another year.
Recipes
This is soup weather. This first recipe is is from my old church cookbook. I think it will feed a crowd.
Vegetable Soup
10 ears of corn, cut from cob
2 gallons of tomatoes, peeled and quartered
1 cup carrots, sliced
1 1/2 cups of okra, cut
1 cup lima beans
6 small onions, cut into rings
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup salt
1/2 cup vinegar
1 quart warm water
Cook in open pot for about 30 minutes. Put into sterilized jars. Seal. Can be frozen.
Tortilla Soup
This recipe is from a quilt guild cookbook.
1 medium onion, chopped
1 large clove of garlic, chopped
2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
4 (10 count) pkgs. corn tortillas, torn into chip size pieces
12 cups of chicken broth
3 (4 oz) cans green chilies
1/2 tsp. cumin
2 Tbsp seasoning salt
Monterey Jack or Cheddar cheese
Saute onion and garlic in oil in saucepan. Add tortillas, broth, chilies and seasonings. Simmer for 30 minutes, or until tortillas are tender. Serve with grated cheese. Yields 10 to 12 servings. (I think you could throw a rotisserie chicken in this and have your cooking done for several nights. That’s more time to sew!)
February Schedule
Our class in February is called Squares and Pointy Things. Dates are Friday, February 23 OR Saturday, February 24, 2024. Class fee is $38.00. This includes a handout.
This is a stashburster quilt. It is one of the quilts I taught at MBQP. Go through your stash and pull lights for the sashing, darks for the stars and mediums for the squares. The construction technique is just what I call a “flippy corner”. All the cutting is very simple. There are no special rulers required. REMEMBER TO BRING SOMETHING FOR “SHOW AND TELL”.
Class starts at 10 am and finishes about 4 pm but we’ll have the building open at 9:00 am so plan to arrive in time to have a cup of coffee and set up so we’ll be ready to start at 10:00 am. The class will be held at Cool Spring Community Church, 1902 Mocksville Rd, Cleveland, NC—that is Hwy. 64 about 8 miles East of Statesville, and is easily accessible from either I-77 or I-40.
As you know, eating lunch is an important part of the day. Bring a sandwich, or your favorite recipe, and we’ll provide sides, chips, desert and tea. Quilters are good cooks too so there is always plenty to share.
To register for the class, call Cindy Page, 704-376-2531 to reserve your space, then mail checks payable to The Quilter’s Gallery to 224 Woodleaf Road, Cleveland, NC 27013. Payment is required at the time of registration to hold your space in the class. A supply list with directions to the venue will be emailed to you upon registration.
Also, bring some device that will take photographs of each step of the process.Guild Activity – We will be in Columbia, SC teaching a Curves Workshop on Feb. 20, 2024

This is Josh, Brandi, Wes and Wil.
Running T is the new way to farm. They raise grass fed beef. We are excited about the improvements that they will make to our farm. This is farming the way it is supposed to be done.
They are currently taking orders for their Fall beef deliveries. Take a look at their website if you are thinking about beef for this fall/winter. They are taking orders now for beef to be ready by fall. It’s a little different from just running to the grocery store when you need something, but it’s worth the extra effort and planning.
