Where has the summer gone? We have had some fun and we have worked a lot. There is always fabric to fold and packs to make. For the next month we will be getting fabric ready for the Asheville Quilt show. Mark your calendars for September 26 – 28, 2024.
Surprise Apple Cake
2 T. melted butter
1/2 t. cinnamon
3 eggs
1 can (1 1/2c. sweetened condensed milk
2 T. lemon juice
Zest of one lemon
2 cups of applesauce
Mix your graham cracker crumbs, butter and cinnamon; spread about 3/4 of the crumb mixture in a thick layer on the bottom of a buttered spring mold or a 10-inch deep cake pan. Separate your eggs and beat the yolks well. Add the condensed milk, lemon juice, zest, and applesauce to the the beaten egg yolks. Beat your egg whites til stiff; fold into milk mixture. Pour everything into your cake mold or pan and cover with remaining cracker crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes.
August Schedule
Fab Farm is our class in August. This will be more like a support group than a class.
Dates are August 23 or 24, 2024. Start collecting your fabrics, organizing and cutting. $38.00 for the class. $28.00 for the pattern.
If you want to sign up at the last minute, but don’t have any time to cut or prepare, let us know and I will cut a strawberry block for you. (look at the pony block) This way you can learn the technique and start selecting your fabric and cutting.REMEMBER TO BRING SOMETHING FOR
“SHOW AND TELL”.
Class starts at 10 am and finishes about 4 pm but we’ll have the building open at 9:00 am so plan to arrive in time to have a cup of coffee and set up so we’ll be ready to start at 10:00 am. The class will be held at Cool Spring Community Church, 1902 Mocksville Rd, Cleveland, NC—that is Hwy. 64 about 8 miles East of Statesville, and is easily accessible from either I-77 or I-40.
As you know, eating lunch is an important part of the day. Bring a sandwich, or your favorite recipe, and we’ll provide sides, chips, desert and tea. Quilters are good cooks too so there is always plenty to share.

Payment is required at the time of registration to hold your space in the class. A supply list with directions to the venue will be emailed to you upon registration.Also, bring some device that will take photographs of each step of the process.

Kaleidoscope will our class in November. Dates will be November 15 or 16, 2024. Cindy will cover basic construction and the possibilities of “stacked” cutting.

November 4 and 5, 2024 – Program and workshop for Lake and Mountain guild in Seneca, SC.
November 7, 2024 – Program for Gate City.
November 9, 2024 – Kaleidoscope workshop for DOQ, Durham, NC.
November 13, 2024 – Program and workshop in Anderson, SC.Whew! That’s all I know about right now. I’m sure there are a few typos above, but I’ll get them worked out. Hopefully, you can come to us for a class, or we will be somewhere close to you.
Farm News

Most of you know that Cindy and I live on a farm that has been in our family for 5 generations. We don’t know the first thing about a tractor but we know a good thing when we see it. Josh and Brandi Teague are using our farm to raise locally grown 100% Grass Fed Beef. This is the way farming should be done. They don’t use antibiotics or hormones. Pasture are regenerating under their watchful eye.
They ship beef all over the US. Check out their website, or find them on Facebook or Utube.

Donkey News
Wilbur is not very happy. He just saw the Fab Farm quilt and he is quite upset that there is not a donkey on this quilt. I think I agree.
