Hello Quilters,
I hope you have enjoyed this cooler weather and got just the right amount of rain to make your garden grow.

Our next class is Merry and Bright.
Hello Everyone,

We are still helping our cousin John by picking blueberries on his farm.  If you are keeping score, we have picked 63 gallons so far.  John says this should be the peak week.  All the bushes are ripening up. You can pick your own, or we can pick them for you and you can pick them up at our barn.  (Call Cindy to reserve – 704-376-2531) It’s easy to pick your own.  You don’t have to bend over.  It will take about an hour to pick a gallon. John provides a milk jug to pick in.  You put it around your waist with a belt, and pick with both hands.  It’s a nice day in the country and most of the time there is a shady spot to pick in. We pick in the mornings, so if you need us, we will be available in the afternoons. John Knox Berry Farm is located at 458 Oak Forest Dr., Statesville, NC.  (That’s about 5 miles east of Statesville on Hwy. 64)  For more information, call John at 704.872.6115.
We did change things up a bit this week.  We picked blackberries a couple of times.  I pick blueberries in shorts and flip flops, but we pick blackberries in long pants, 2 shirts, boots and long gloves.  It’s not fun.  We only got about a gallon each.

July Class

This is the block we are making in July.  I finally finished my sample, see above,  and I’m pleased with how it turned out.  I like scrappy quilts.  This looks like a “picnic” quilt to me.
The name of this pattern is Merry and Bright by The Pattern Basket.  $9.95. If you can’t get to class, we’ll be happy to mail you a pattern.  July means two things – 4th of July or Christmas in July.
You can make this quilt in red, white and blue as shown, or make it in your favorite Christmas fabrics. The techniques we will cover are flying geese and lots of “flippy corners”.
Class dates are Friday, July 29 OR Saturday, July 30, 2022.
Class fee is $38.00 plus the pattern purchase.
12 blocks as shown, would make a nice Quilt of Valor.

To register for the class, call or text Cindy at 704-376-2531.
Classes are held at Cool Spring UMC, 1902 Mocksville Hwy., Cleveland, NC 27013.
That’s about 6 miles east of Statesville on Hwy. 64.
Cindy will send a supply list when you register.

The church is easily accessible from I-40 or I-77.

Class will be from 10 am-4 pm but we have the church open by 9 am so you can get set up
and have a cup of coffee before we begin at 10 am.
As you know, eating lunch is an important part of the day.
Bring a sandwich or a casserole and we’ll provide sides, chips, desert and tea.

Be sure to bring your “show and tell” quilts. We love to see what you are working on.

Once you are registered, mail a check payable to The Quilter’s Gallery to 224 Woodleaf Road, Cleveland, NC  27013.  Payment is required at the time of registration to hold your space in the class.

August Events

Burgoyne Surrounded
Class dates for August are Friday, August 26 OR Saturday, August 27, 2022.
Burgoyne Surrounded is a traditional pattern using simple strip piecing techniques.
Skill level:  confident beginner. Class fee is $38.00 and includes a handout.

The name of this quilt refers to a battle in the American Revolution when American soldiers surrounded and forced the surrender of British General Burgoyne and his 6000 soldiers.  So many traditional quilt designs have a legend behind their names.  It’s always interesting to read about the history behind the designs.
Easy piecing.  It can be done in 2 fabrics, 2 colors and multiple fabrics or it can be multi-colored.
We do have kits available using the fabrics shown above.

Here is another version.
Cindy made it look scrappy but she actually cut her strips from an ombre fabric.

We have several guild programs and classes scheduled all over NC and SC in August. So we will be traveling quite a bit.
We hope to see you in class or at a guild event in August.
