October newsletter
This is one sample from the Kaleidoscope class this Friday or Saturday.
As you know, last week was all about the Asheville quilt show. It took us a couple of days to rest up. We’ve cleaned up and put things away.
For all you French General fans, 3 boxes of Chateau de Chantilly have arrived.
Chateau de Chantilly is an sweet collection of florals and small prints all found in an old chateau in the South of France. Sometimes on our French Getaway retreat, we are lucky enough to get an invitation to a private vide grenier – a clearing of the attic. When the stars are aligned, we often find a trunk full of 18th and 19th century French scraps that are perfect for our fabric collections and quilt designs. Bright shades of rouge, clay, pearl, tea and roche are combined to make a classic French palette with a fresh, modern appeal.
We love this line because it has border stripes! A border stripe is an easy way to dress up a quilt.
If you want to shop while there is plenty of fabric in stock, call us.
Cindy – 704-376-2531 or Patti – 704-807-6992.
1 1/2 tsp. soda
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
3 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
6 tsp. buttermilk
3 cups of tart raw apples (diced)
Sift flour, spices, soda and salt. Cream butter, add sugar and beat well. Add whole eggs, beat, then add buttermilk and dry ingredients. Batter will be very stiff. Add apples. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Eat plain or frost with 2/3 cup of brown sugar, 6 tsp. melted butter, 1/4 cup of cream or canned milk, 1 cup of coconut and 1/2 tsp. vanilla. Spread on cooked cake and brown lightly under broiler. Mom didn’t say but I think she always made this in a 9″ x 13″ pan.
Cindy is going to do All Things Kaleidoscope – from beginning to end.
You can do a simple scrappy kaleidoscope or a “stack and whack” version.
$38.00 plus ruler Cindy will have a sample block cut out for everyone to piece in order to learn the construction techniques. This is a quilt that can be made many different ways. You can make it scrappy. You can make it two color. You can fussy cut it. Cindy will demo how to layer and cut your fabric for a true kaleidoscope effect. Books and rulers will be available at the class. We are using Marti Michell’s book and ruler.
To register for the class, call Cindy Page, 704-376-2531 to reserve your space, then mail checks payable to The Quilter’s Gallery to 224 Woodleaf Road, Cleveland, NC 27013. This class is $38.00. Payment is required at the time of registration to hold your space in the class. A supply list/cutting instructions and directions to the venue will be emailed to you upon registration.
Bring something for “show and tell”.
This is the best (p)art of the class.

Farm News
|
Many of you know that Cindy and I live in the country. We are the 5th generation to live on this farm Just recently, due to heath issues, our cousins that ran the farm decided to retire. We are pleased to announce that Running T Beef will be expanding onto our farm.
\
This is Josh, Brandi, Wes and Will.
Running T is the new way to farm. They raise grass fed beef. We are excited about the improvements that they will make to our farm. This is farming the way it is supposed to be done.
They are currently taking orders for their Fall beef deliveries. Take a look at their website if you are thinking about beef for this fall/winter. They are taking orders now for beef to be ready by fall. It’s a little different from just running to the grocery store when you need something, but it’s worth the extra effort and planning.
