Hello Quilters,
We are getting ready for our “Boot Camp” quilting class.  Join us for some tips and tricks that will improve your skills.

Jack’s Chain will be our July quilting class.
Dates are July 26 OR 27, 2024.
Hello Quilters,
Where in the world are Cindy and Patti?  This week we are home.  In May we had a great time in Hendersonville at the Western NC Quilters Guild Quilt Show.  It was a lovely show and we certainly enjoyed our visit there.
Last weekend we were in Marietta (Atlanta) for their quilt show.   Once again we were treated like royalty.  This was a talented group of quilters and they know how to organize!

Recipes
I bought an old cookbook at our yard sale.  This is the pancake recipe that our mom made for us on Sunday morning.  The egg whites make them light and fluffy.  Times change – she fried them in a big knob of Crisco and we smothered them in Mrs. Butterworth’s syrup.
1928 Recipe for Pancakes
2 cups of plain flour
1/2 t. salt
3 1/2 t. baking powder
1 1/2 c. milk
1 beaten egg
2 T. melted butter
2 egg whites, stiffly beaten
1 t. vanilla
Makes about 2 dozen medium sized pancakes.
Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl.  Add the beaten egg to the liquid.  Add the liquid mixture to the dry ingredients very gradually, and stir quickly.  Now add the melted butter, egg whites and the vanilla.

This was one of the Household Hints from this old cookbook…
I made a frame 1 foot wide, 1 foot deep and 1 foot high.  I covered it with screen and nailed it to my wash-house wall.  Now, when picking a chicken, I place the feathers in the  container to dry.  When dry they are burned or lawn and porch pillows are made from th feathers.  This keeps the yard clean and add to the splendor of the lawn and porch.
(Note to Self – Don’t complain about the cost of skinless, boneless chicken breast portions ever again. If I had to pick feathers before I could grill my chicken, I would starve to death.)

June Schedule
Our June Class is “Boot Camp”

Class dates are June 21 or June 22, 2024.  Boot Camp is a sample and notebook class.  We will cover techniques that will make your quilting results easier and better.  We will talk about fabric prep, accuracy, grain line, mitering and binding.  Lots of little tips and tricks. All you need to do is bring your sewing machine and basics.  We will have all the samples precut for you.  $38.00 fee includes class samples.REMEMBER TO BRING SOMETHING FOR
“SHOW AND TELL”.

Class starts at 10 am and finishes about 4 pm but we’ll have the building open at 9:00 am so plan to arrive in time to have a cup of coffee and set up so we’ll be ready to start at 10:00 am.  The class will be held at Cool Spring Community Church, 1902 Mocksville Rd, Cleveland, NC—that is Hwy. 64 about 8 miles East of Statesville, and is easily accessible from either I-77 or I-40.

As you know, eating lunch is an important part of the day.  Bring a sandwich, or your favorite recipe, and we’ll provide sides, chips, desert and tea.  Quilters are good cooks too so there is always plenty to share.

To register for the class, call or text Cindy Page,
704-376-2531 to reserve your space, then mail checks payable to The Quilter’s Gallery to 224 Woodleaf Road, Cleveland, NC 27013.   Payment is required at the time of registration to hold your space in the class. A supply list with directions to the venue will be emailed to you upon registration.

Farm News

Runningtbeef.com

Most of you know that Cindy and I live on a farm that has been in our family for 5 generations.  We don’t know the first thing about a tractor but we know a good thing when we see it.  Josh and Brandi Teague are using our farm to raise locally grown 100% Grass Fed Beef.  This is the way farming should be done.  They don’t use antibiotics or hormones.  Pasture are regenerating under their watchful eye.
They ship beef all over the US.  Check out their website, or find them on Facebook or Utube.
