Hello Quilters,
December was a hard month for “The Pizza Girls”.
Early in December I went out to feed Wilbur, Lady Mary and Mr. Carson. Just as I bent over to put more food in Wilbur’s bowl, he swung his head around and caught me on the brow bone. I saw stars. He gave me a black eye that would have made Rocky Balboa proud. More about my black eye in Donkey News.
On Thursday, December 12, we are cruising along toward the holidays. Family is scheduled for Saturday. Thursday was supposed to be gift wrapping day. Friday was clean house and cook day. Cindy calls me on Thursday morning . “Can you come over here? I have fallen.” I hurry to her house. I’m concerned but not too alarmed. As it turns out, she has had a quick “slip and fall” and she has broken her leg. After lots of vehicles with flashing lights, at least a dozen EMTs, and an ambulance ride to the hospital, she has a spiral fracture of the femur of her left leg. It was pretty bad. She had surgery on Friday. She was in the hospital for several days and then in rehab for 3 weeks and 5 days. I broke her out of the hospital on Tuesday night, January 7th, and then I left for the Sanford show the next morning. Cindy stayed home to work on the sample for her class at The Myrtle Beach Quilt Party.
This is the quilt Cindy is working on. It’s called Joseph’s Coat. You know how Cindy loves a challenge.
We appreciate everyone that attended the Sanford show. We had some bad weather and that hurt our attendance. Myrtle beach Quilt Party was a lot of fun, even though it was too cold to get out on the beach and everyone enjoyed their classes. Cindy was tired but soldiered through.
This Friday is the Quilting and Needle Art Extravaganza in Statesville. We are ready with lots of new fabric packs. There are some new vendors and some returning favorite vendors. Some of the vendors are from WNC. Show them your support by buying a yard of fabric or a ruler.

Cindy will be there. She can’t put weight on her leg yet, so she will be sitting and working. Stop by and she can show you pictures of her incision.
New at the Statesville show –
We will have a vendor doing Scissor Sharpening.

Recipes
This is our mom’s pound cake recipe.
My intention was to share it in time fo Christmas.
These are momma’s notes –
Have all ingredients at room temperature.
Grease a heavy tube pan with butter and flour lightly.
Mom uses Kerry Gold butter and White Lily flour.
Remove from the oven when done and turn onto a serving plate. Scrape crumbs and grease from the pan. Put pan back over the cake until cool.
Upcoming Shows, Classes and Guild Programs
We have a few guild programs scheduled for February. We are scheduled for the Charlotte and the Raleigh show in March. Not sure when we will start back with classes. We need to get Cindy back to normal.

Most of you know that Cindy and I live on a farm that has been in our family for 5 generations. We don’t know the first thing about a tractor but we know a good thing when we see it. Josh and Brandi Teague are using our farm to raise locally grown 100% Grass Fed Beef. This is the way farming should be done. They don’t use antibiotics or hormones. Pasture are regenerating under their watchful eye.
They ship beef all over the US. Check out their website, or find them on Facebook or Utube.

Not only did he give Patti a black eye, but he’s been picking fights and got a black eye of his own! Santa brought him a big bag of coal and switches. (He did get some big hugs too! He really is a sweet boy.)
