Hello Quilters,
Cindy is teaching Alaska this Friday and Saturday.

Alaska by Edita Sitar is our class in February.

Hello Everyone,
We had a great time last week in Surfside Beach, SC at our “Pop Up Shop” event.  The weather was great and we enjoyed every seafood basket we ate.  We always enjoy our time with The Cotton Quilt, Empty Pockets and Featherweight Poppy.  Thank you to everyone who came out and bought fabric from us.
This week has been “catch up”.  Things like laundry and changing beds don’t ever take vacation time.
Today we are cooking supper for our seniors (and others) at church.  It was supposed to be last night for Lent, but sometimes schedules don’t sync. We are having breakfast for supper.  Egg and sausage casserole and Blueberry French toast are in the frig, ready to go in the oven.  Bacon and grits are ready, just need to be reheated. It’s always a nice evening – we have all ages – from 6 years old to 96 years old.
Recipes
Everyone enjoyed the recipes at Christmas. Here is another family favorite.  This is my grandmother’s sugar cookie recipe.  This makes a thick and crispy cookie.
3 2/3 c. sifted plain flour  (Mom uses regular flour.  Gma’s recipe uses cake flour)
2 1/2 t, baking powder
1/2 t. salt
2/3 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs, unbeaten
1 t. vanilla
4 t. milk
Beat sugar and butter.
Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder and salt and sift again. Add eggs, one at a time, beating throughly after each.  Add vanilla, then add flour alternately with milk and blend.  Chill.  Roll to 1/8 inch thick.  Cut with floured 2 1/2 inch cookie cutter.  Sprinkle with sugar.  Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes or so.  Makes 10 dozen cookies.
Optional presentation – roll into balls.  Place on cookie sheet and flatten with a glass with a pattern on the bottom.  Dip glass in sugar first.

Classes

Our class dates for February are Feb. 24 or 25.  Cindy will be teaching Alaska.  It’s a pattern by Edita Sitar.

Our class dates are Friday, Feb. 24 OR Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023.  Class fee is $38.00.  You will need the pattern, ($25) and the templates, ($25).  We are working on blue and cream batik kits, as shown.  Get in touch with Cindy asap if you are interested.  This is a kaleidoscope with a twist.  Class will focus on building precision piecing skills.  Some of you might have the Alaska ruler.  Cindy thought the templates were easier to use, but if you already have the ruler, by all means you can use it.

REMEMBER TO BRING SOMETHING FOR “SHOW AND TELL”.

Class starts at 10 am and finishes about 4 pm but we’ll have the building open at 9:00 am so plan to arrive in time to have a cup of coffee and set up, so we’ll be ready to start at 10:00 am.  The class will be held at Cool Spring Methodist Church, 1902 Mocksville Rd, Cleveland, NC—that is Hwy. 64 about 8 miles East of Statesville, and is easily accessible from either I-77 or I-40.

As you know, eating lunch is an important part of the day.  Bring a sandwich, or your favorite recipe, and we’ll provide sides, chips, desert and tea.  Quilters are good cooks too so there is always plenty to share.

To register for the class, call or text Cindy Page, 704-376-2531 to reserve your space, then mail checks payable to The Quilter’s Gallery to 224 Woodleaf Road, Cleveland, NC 27013.   Payment is required at the time of registration to hold your space in the class. A supply list with directions to the venue will be emailed to you upon registration.

Classes

Our class dates for March are Friday, March 24 or Saturday, March 25, 2023. We are doing something a little different.  Stash Busters is going to be a series of quilts that are fairly simple to make.  They are designed to use up all the random fabrics that are in your stash.  Experienced quilters will be able to knock out a quilt top in no time.  Beginners will feel comfortable taking the class.  While others are sewing, we will spend time with you on basic skills like cutting, rulers, and sewing basics.  Maybe you have a friend that wants to quilt but other classes have been too advanced.  Stash Busters will be something you can do together.  This was easy to make, and I think it turned out to be a nice “quilty” looking quilt.  I used all my leftover French General reds for the squares and a light robin’s egg blue for the stripping.

To register for the class, call or text Cindy Page, 704-376-2531 to reserve your space, then mail checks payable to The Quilter’s Gallery to 224 Woodleaf Road, Cleveland, NC 27013.   Payment is required at the time of registration to hold your space in the class. Class is $38.00.  This will include a handout and yardages for several different size quilts.
Quilt Guilds

Have you ever googled your quilt guild?  Each year as we prepare for the shows, we try to mail out complimentary show tickets.  We think it’s fun for you and it’s a good way for us to spread the news about the shows.  Some guilds are easy to reach.  They have websites and PO Boxes.  However, some of you are the best kept secrets in the whole quilting world.  Take a look at your website.  Is there a “snail mail” address anywhere?  Or a contact person?  Should we send mail to the address of the location where you meet?  Sometimes we get tired of looking and just skip over you.  Google “quilt guilds in NC”.  A couple of sites will come up with an extensive list of guilds.  Is the info about your guild current?

Here are some of the guilds that we could not find online or their envelope was returned.  If you have any information about these guilds, are they still active?  Have they disbanded? please let us know.
Anson Memory Makers Quilt Guild

Carolina Shores Quilters Guild

Mr. Carson is frustrated.  He’s been looking for his back legs all day..  He’s looked everywhere for them!

Never mind.  He found them.  Just where he left them.  Don’t you hate it when that happens?
