Hello Quilters,
We are fine.  Safe.  All our merchandise is safe. Thank you to everyone that has reached out to check on us.   We hope that you are safe too. Here is the story from our end…
We drove to Asheville on Tuesday. Rain was very heavy as we got into town, but this was just a regular rain storm.  We unpacked at the Ag Center.  By this time the rain had stopped.  Everyone was in good spirits.  We realized we had an issue with a tire on the van. We checked into the hotel and had burgers to celebrate being in Asheville.  We got up on Wednesday, found a tire shop, dropped off the van and went back to the Ag Center to set up.  We worked all day.  Everything was perfect.  We were ready for business. The quilt show was hung.  There were many, many fabulous quilts to look at. It was still raining, but no one was too concerned.  We picked up the van and ate supper.
We got up Thursday morning and started out the door.  There was an email that the show had been canceled.  We drove over, got in the booth, got our snack food and water and went back to the hotel.   We spent the day napping and watching the weather reports and movies on tv. That sounds like fun until that is the only thing you can do.  We went out for pasta.  We knew the hurricane was coming, but we were still not too worried.
We woke up about 4am on Friday and realized that we did not have power.  No worries.  We had snack food, running water and a toilet that worked.  Our room was comfortable. We spent the morning talking and texting with family and other vendors.  We assumed that the power would come back on and we would be at the show on Saturday and Sunday. Napped and went outside for a walk.  Got whatever info we could get from the other people in the hotel.  We were beginning to realize that this was bigger than we thought.  The info about roads was sketchy and conflicting.  By now the cell connections had disappeared and we couldn’t tell anyone that we were really ok.  Our vehicles were dry in the parking lot. We had gas.  We wanted to go home, but all our stuff was still at the Ag Center.
We got up Saturday am.  We really wanted a cup of coffee.  Our heads were starting to hurt from caffeine withdrawal.  We made cold coffee  with the hotel coffee packs.  The hotel had bag breakfasts for everyone.  (A shout out to the Hampton Inn employees.  They remained calm and courteous throughout this whole ordeal.)  We decided to clean up and drive to the venue.  We had running water even if it was cold.  Traffic was not as scary as we anticipated.  We saw lines of cars and lines of people trying to get in the one convenience store that was open.  When we got to the venue, they were letting vendors pack up and leave.  We walked in.  The space was dark except for the light from the doors and windows.
We stared to pack.  Normally this takes about 2 hours.
It is harder to pack in the dark.
Everyone just got to it and got to work.  Several guild members were there.  They were constantly checking on us to see how we were.
By now, it is mid afternoon.  We went back to the hotel to get our cargo van.  We finished packing. There was a Forest Service officer in the parking lot.  He confirmed that I-26 was open to Shelby.  We went back to the hotel, got our things and left.  No real issues on the road but it was slow once we got to Shelby because stop lights were still out.  As we were driving and seeing everything, we started to realize that this was much worse than we knew.  The only funny thing that happened – as we drove into Cleveland county, our phones started dinging and dinging.  We were back in civilization!  We got home about 7ish.  Took a shower.  Ate something. Went to bed.
Some vendors were not able to get their merchandise out on Saturday.  The Asheville Quilt Guild has the daunting task of returning all the quilts.  Not to mention dealing with the damage to their homes and communities.  Many cannot travel due to trees down and road damage.  No one has power.
Again, we are fine.  We lost a weekend’s revenue . But we have everything we went to Asheville with.  We have our homes and our business.  I’m shaken to realize how bad it really was.  Many people have nothing.  Many of you reached out to check on us.  We thank you for that.  We hope that you are OK too.  We don’t know any info about some of the shops that are in the mountains.  Quilt and Code? 5 Little Monkeys?  Friends and Fiberworks?  If you hear anything, please let us know.
Please, help WNC anyway you can.

Farm News

Runningtbeef.com

Most of you know that Cindy and I live on a farm that has been in our family for 5 generations.  We don’t know the first thing about a tractor but we know a good thing when we see it.  Josh and Brandi Teague are using our farm to raise locally grown 100% Grass Fed Beef.  This is the way farming should be done.  They don’t use antibiotics or hormones.  Pasture are regenerating under their watchful eye.
They ship beef all over the US.  Check out their website, or find them on Facebook or Utube.

Call Cindy – 704-376-2531 if you would like to order anything.
As most of you know, we are not a brick and mortar shop.  We are just a studio.

We are available by appointment.  Call us if you need directions.  We are located off I-40 between
Statesville and Mocksville, NC.
Our address is 186 Page Farm Road, Cleveland, NC  27013.
We are not anywhere close to Cleveland, NC, even though that is our mailing address.

Donkey News

All the donkeys are fine.  A little bedraggled, but just fine.  Lady Mary didn’t want to be photographed.
Her hair was just not quite right.

We still have a few spaces available at our Sanford show.  If you know of a shop that you think would benefit from our show, please encourage them to contact us.  We have always tried to feature local shops at our show, and this year we would like to make some spaces available for a couple of local long arm quilters.  If you would like a space to show your work and talk to potential customers,
at a reasonable rate, please give me a call.
