Doesn’t it make you feel better to see beautiful flowers everywhere? That green pasture in the background is what I look at from my kitchen window. I’m a lucky woman.
Hello Everyone,
Things are getting better. More and more of you are venturing out. We are still in masks, but things don’t seem so oppressive anymore. Here’s what I finished this week.
Ocean Waves
Fabric is Paris Fleas Market by 3 Sisters/Moda
It was a bag full of mess. I think it was started around 2005. The blocks were all different sizes. I had about 1/3 of the blocks put together. I pulled them apart and squeezed some more blocks out of the fabric in the bag. Since everything was kinda wonky, I added strips between everything. (3/4″ finished) The stripping gave the bulky seams somewhere to go and I like the effect of the tiny cornerstones.
This weeks bag is full of black and white and bright fabrics. We’ll see where that goes…
Cindy is still recovering from her Jack’s Chain completion and sewing room reconstruction. She’s quietly working on some new, small projects.
Save the Date for our “Show and Tell” Event
Friday, April 9 and Saturday. April 10, 2021
We are going to have a big “Show and Tell” event. Bring all the quilts and quilt tops that you have made. Bring a yard chair. We’ll be outside at the barn. Assuming that the weather cooperates, it should be a fun day. (If the weather is cold or rainy, we’ll reschedule.) We’ll have coffee and muffins. We’ll still be careful. We’ll be respectful of space. We’ll do another event later if you are not comfortable being out yet. Plan to arrive about 10ish and we’ll start the Show and Tell at 11ish. It will be helpful if you let us know if you are coming, so we can prepare enough muffins, but a reservation is not required.
As you know, we are working on our church yard sale. The money we raise goes for college scholarships. If you would like to bring items for the yard sale, we will gladly accept them. We are looking for basic household items like sheets and towels and kitchen items. We sell a lot of old suitcases. Please do not bring random electronics. Don’t even think about bringing that old treadmill that’s taking up space in your sewing room.
Call Cindy – 704-376-2531 if you would like to order anything or make an appointment to shop. Taxes and shipping will be added to orders. Remember, we do not have a shopping cart on our website. If you need us for anything, call and make a shopping appointment.
Shopping Time
You can always make an appointment for any time that suits you by calling Cindy at the number above. We would love to see you. Just call this week if you need to have some retail therapy. I think a root canal is going to require some of my time this week, so just call us. Not exactly sure what our schedule will be this week. Call us if you need directions. We are located off I-40 between Statesville and Mocksville, NC.

Scrap quilt tips –
We’ve talked about organizing your fabric. This is always a struggle.
We’ve talked a little about having contrast, or a variety of lights and darks in your quilts.
Let’s talk a little about preparation. Some of you prewash everything. Yes, that’s probably the best thing to do but I’m usually in a hurry and just jump right in. Sometimes I wash things and sometimes I don’t. Usually I don’t prewash light colored background fabric. I prewash dark fabric most of the time. If I am making a quilt that is dark purple or dark red sewn to white, then I DO prewash the dark fabric.
Always take a look at the BACK SIDE of your dark fabric. If the back is light like the top fabric, then I don’t worry about it so much. If it is dark through and through, like the bottom fabric then it has been dyed first and then printed on top of that. It is more saturated with color and more likely to fade or bleed in the wash. There are no guarantees, no product that I know of that will work 100% of the time. When I wash quilts, I always use some brand of “color catcher” in the wash.
Come to see us this week. Bring what you are working on to show us.

Curly says, “I appreciate how many of you ask about me. I’m an old guy. I’m at least 25 – 30 years old. I haven’t been feeling very good. This wet weather has given me sore feet. I hope things will dry out soon’.
